Local Events

We have lots going on in South Shropshire throughout the year.

For lots of ideas on event and things to do see the South Shropshire Page.

We are also just a mile from the North Herefordshire border so click here for Herefordshire Events.

And if you fancy visiting Wales how about nipping across into Powys, the border is just 6 miles from Hopton House.

Here are a selection of our favourites:

The main attraction of the Ludlow Festival is the open air Shakespeare play - this year Richard III - in the grounds of Ludlow Castle. But there are also lots of other events including the Opera Babes singing in St Laurence Church and a talk from Colin Dexter, the creator of Morse.

The Ludlow Food and Drink Festival is on the 12th, 13th and 14th September. Both the Friday and Saturday nights are fully booked but you could still combine a stay with us and attend the festival but booking a stay that departs on Friday 12th or starts on Sunday 14th.

Or how about a visit to the Herefordshire Food and Drink Festival on 25th and 26th October. We are about a 45 minute drive to the Festival.

The Hay Festival is at the end of May. We do have 4 nights accommodation available  on 26th to 29th May. We're about 45 minutes to Hay on Wye. The drive down there over the welsh hills is really lovely.

For real ale lovers the Clun Real Ale Festival is held at a number of pubs along the Clun Valley on 3rd - 5th October 2008.

The Ludlow Medieval Craft Fayre is held on 29th and 30th November this year. It's a very popular and atmospheric pre Christmas fayre held in the grounds of the castle. Accommodation for that weekend always gets booked up very quickly so please contact us soon if you wish to stay here at Hopton House
