Hopton House - Accessibility Statement
We welcome everyone at Hopton House. If you have any specific requests or questions that you would like to discuss with us, please call or email.
House Layout
The house is on 2 levels; ground and first floor. There are 5 steps to a half landing, then 10 steps to the first floor. Each step is 86 cm wide and 20 cm high. There is a handrail on the right.
The Paddock Room and Orchard Room are upstairs
The ground floor is level throughout, apart from a small step from the outer to the inner landing on the way to the dining room.
There is a downstairs toilet with washbasin by the front door in the main house - there is no space either side to transfer to the toilet and access is via a small step.
The Barn
We are aiming to make The Barn as accessible as we can. However we will be doing this over time due to manpower and budget constraints!
The Barn is a downstairs room in a separate building about 25m from the house.
We have designed it to meet all of the space requirements for wheelchair turning circles and wide doors etc. There is a ramp into the dining room and the barn deck and there is a wet room shower. The sink in the bathroom is wall mounted. The toilet has sufficient space to the left of it ( as you're looking at it ) for a wheelchair. The bathroom floor is tiled with a rough limestone effect tile. We have a portable shower and bath stool.
There is parking available immediately outside of the barn.
Left to do; We need to fix grab rails in the bathroom - we are going to do this with chrome rails. We have a gravel drive so we need to find a way of creating a pathway to the main dining room that is more accessible.
Assistance Dogs and other Pets
We welcome assistance dogs and are happy to exercise, clear up after or feed them on request
Friendly dogs belonging to guests are welcome by arrangement provided they are kept under control around the chickens and that they get on well with other dogs. Please no dogs that are or maybe aggressive to other animals or people as it isn't fair to our resident dogs or other guests.
We have 2 pet dogs of our own. They are not permitted the kitchen whilst we are preparing food. However they do have access to the rest of the house, so Hopton would not be suitable for anyone with a severe dog allergy.
Both dogs are very friendly with everyone, including children and babies but they are bouncy! If guests request we will do our best to ensure the dogs are kept away for the duration of your stay.
We own free range chickens
We do not own cats or allow them in the house due to severe cat allergies in the family
