It isn't easy to explore the countryside without a car and we aren't suggesting guests should go completely car free. However there are some ways that you could make your stay a bit more sustainable - and hopefully save you some petrol money! Here are some ideas:

  • Plan day trips carefully so that you visit lots of attractions in one area rather than driving miles between places

  • Challenge yourself to travel no further than 30 minutes from Hopton House - you can still visit much of South Shropshire, North Herefordshire and Mid Wales

  • Leave the car at HH for the day and take the Heart of Wales Line to explore South Wales ( we are a 2 minute walk from a request stop on the line )

  • Bring your bike or hire one from Wheely Wonderful Cycling

  • If you like long walks then how about The Shropshire Lad Walk. This a  15 mile circular route from Hopton House that takes in all of A.E. Housman's Clunton and Clunbury, Clungunford and Clun, Are the quietest places Under the sun - as well as a pub serving great food and local real ale halfway round!

  • If you prefer a shorter walk there are circular walks from the house, including one that goes past Rocke Cottage Tea Rooms - once named best tearoom in the country and just over a mile from Hopton House!

  • Drive to one of the stops for the Shropshire Hills Shuttle Bus then let the bus take the strain whilst you explore the countryside or  Car share by bringing some friends to Hopton House!
